Monterrey is a place like many in Johannesburg. Metre-high walls, wire fences alternate with high voltage fences and a 24/7 security guard at the only entrance.
Life in Johannesburg is marked by separation. Monterrey is just an example, which was taken out along endless walls. All residences have that special feeling of „normal“. The silence is sometimes unbearable.
In Monterrey, there was exactly one road that goes around in the compound. The colors of the flowerbeds are matched to the safety warnings of the numerous „Tactical Response“ signs. Small and accurately cutted trees give you a glimpse how it looks like behind the walls ... it would be nice to have a look through the window, rather than forever to see only the roofs behind walls, walls and walls.
